About

who is Ragnaroekk?

I’ve enjoyed tinkering with software since my childhood. As a younger brother to an electrical engineer, I had many opportunities to enjoy the discovery process of how something works.

The elementary and high schools near me didn’t offer much in the way of quality education, so my parents chose to home-school me. I found I could easily learn on my own. However, the opportunities afforded in rural America were poor.

I majored in philosophy and religion during my first degree, primarily because the people who were in those programs valued learning more than anyone else I had met. It wasn’t until late in my years at school, (I didn’t have a computer through college because of the expense) that I realized I could pay someone to teach me about coding. I used to edit and change files in different games as a kid and always thought it was just something fun to do, maybe adjust a few parameters and see what the outcome would be.

During my senior year, I had a free elective and I got into a intro to Java class. After my first week, I was hooked. The class was one of my favorites. I went on to take a JavaScripting class the next semester and teach myself some HTML as the prerequisite. One Friday evening, I realized I had  spent about 7 hours working on a basic Facebook like application in JavaScript and HTML. It was then that I realized, I was having fun.

I’ve been working towards paying off my loans since graduating so I could go back to school and get a second degree. This time in computer science. I recently completed that CS degree and started up my masters in cybersecurity engineering. The masters option would basically require the same classes , so it made sense to go for the second bachelor online and work towards that career path. The work load hasn’t been easy, but the journey has been well worth it!

If you’ve made it this far, you should probably take a break, get some coffee, and learn some coding! Thanks for reading.
